Things to do!

Check out highviewholidays on Instagram for up-to-date information!

There are endless places for you to visit in our region and the below is purely a small selection of those very local to Cononley.  As the train station provides direct trains to Bradford and Leeds there are also endless City activities on offer.  If you're happy to travel by car and go further afield then Harrogate and Manchester are definitely worth a visit.

          Climbing Walls                                     Fishing                               Outdoor Activities

Introducing Yorkshire’s very first Clip 'n Climb - Climbing walls meet theme park in an exciting new leisure concept for all ages, four and upwards…

A stunning series of climbing-based activities provide healthy, challenging fun for all the family!

If you fancy trying fishing during your stay there are two centres geared for families.  Raygill Lakes is in Lothersdale, literally a 5 minute drive from the Cottage, or if you fancy a longer trip Kilnsey Park is just outside Grassington.  They both have cafes and Raygill offers a lovely walk.

High Adventure is an Outdoor Activity Centre in Cowling (5 minute drive from the Cottage).  They offer Climbing, Caving, Canyoning, High Ropes and more!  I would advise to contact them with the dates that you're staying and see what they have available.  Urban Altitude in Colne (10 miles) has high & low ropes courses, leap of faith, power-fan, jacob's ladder, climbing wall and 60 metre zip-wire.

Ice Cream Factory                                   Parks                                  In-door Play Area

A fantastic place to visit with children is Yorkshire Dales Ice Cream Farm near Skipton (8.7 miles).  The site has a diner serving American style food as well as delicious coffees and ice creams.  Three play areas (2 free 1 £1 entry).  Equipment suitable for up to 12 year olds.

There are endless play areas for children throughout the region.  Ilkley (11 miles), pictured above, is set right by the river.  St Ives Park in Bingley (11 miles) is another great outdoor area.  Sutton is also a fantastic park and only 2 miles away.

Dragons' Den in Keighley is a great place to let the kids go wild! There is a Play Zone in Skipton but this is geared towards younger children <5 years.  However, in the same building there is bowling, pool and snooker so definitely something for all ages.  Funopilis is a larger children's play area but further away in Shipley.  Or if you're at the other end of the county you may wish to visit Settle Play Barn.

          Swimming                                         Farms                                      Boat Trips

If you fancy going swimming whilst you're here there are various pools in the area.  Ilkley has an indoor and outdoor pool (pictured above).  Other local pools available in Skipton, Keighley, Barnoldswick and Pendle Wavelengths.  Keighley and Pendle both have slides.

Fantastic family days out at either Hesketh Farm, Bolton Abbey or Thornton Hall Farm, Thornton-in-Craven.  Experience hands on animal encounters, ride on various vehicles, have fun in the play areas or relax in the cafe!

View the area from a different angle by taking a boat along the canal.  Whether you want a short 30 minute trip, a longer cruise or to have full control by hiring a boat for the day! Canal Trips, based in Skipton, offer a variety of outings.

          Pottery Painting                                 Bowling                                     Sports Centre

If you fancy painting pottery whilst enjoying some refreshments Coffee and Clay on Skipton High Street is the perfect place!  Choose from 70 blank shapes to make your very own!  Adults and children all welcome!  Or if you want a trip into West Yorkshire as opposed to North there is Cobbles and Clay in Haworth (home of the Bronte sisters).

Enjoy snooker or bowling then visit the Matrix Superbowl in Skipton.  Go to their website for a discount voucher.  The Matrix also has a Play Zone (see above) and Pool and Snooker.

Sandylands Sports Centre, Skipton provides the facilities to play badminton, cricket, football, tennis, table tennis, squash, participate in a gym session or an aerobics class.

Horse Riding

There are 2 riding centres accessible from the Cottage.  My daughter has been to Kilnsey twice and thoroughly enjoyed it.  The views on the way to Kilnsey, and at the Centre itself, are breathtaking.  Booking essential at both.

Draughton Riding Centre (7.5 miles

from Cottage)

Kilnsey Trekking and Riding Centre (16 miles from Cottage).

Over 900 years old, Skipton Castle is one of the most complete and best preserved medieval castles in England.

Visitors can explore every corner of this impressive history-rich castle, which withstood a three-year siege during the Civil War. Climb from the depths of the Dungeon to the top storey of the Watch Tower.

Visit Britain's Finest for more historic buildings in the area.

Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway offers traditional stream trains and certain evens include Thomas the Tank Engine Characters!  They also do a popular Santa Special!
